I read The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle in 2004 or 2005 and it caught my attention. I sat with it for quite a while to see what rang true with me. Just this year I read his new book, A New Earth. I have to say he has my attention. He has my attention enough that I'll deal with Oprah to listen to him and see him.
Through his teachings there has been one reminder that really catches my attention and puts my energy where it should be. In both the Power of Now and a New Earth, the author says to "Be the watcher of your thoughts." I've put this reminder up for me in assorted places. It helps.
It helps me to remember that I am not my thoughts.
"Put up with Oprah?" you ask?
Yeah. I give Oprah tremendous credit, actually, for doing a free online seminar in ten 1.5 hour sessions with Eckhart Tolle, the author of both of the above-mentioned books. It is Eckhart and Oprah on stage alone discussing each chapter of A New Earth. All of it is available for free from Oprah.com and via iTunes in both audio and video formats.
To wrap this around to something kinda Techy, I created an online store via Cafepress.com. It is located at www.cafepress.com/deannorman. I was pretty impressed with Cafepress.com because they require absolutely nothing of you to get started. You create an image and upload it to them. They provide the apparel or unmodified product and apply your image to it. You create an online storefront as I have done and there is zero cost to you. You decide the markup on the products you sell and they pay you when they sell.
Now I just need to sell some things. But really, what better to sell than a simple phrase that creates awareness. Not awareness of a particular issue, but human awareness.
So far I have a shirt and some bumper stickers. I can't wait for my bumper sticker to show up! Can you imagine being all road raging and pissed off and seeing a bumper sticker that says, "Be the Watcher of your Thoughts"? I'd be stopped dead in my tracks. Satori style. |
